Adderbury, Oxfordshire – Taskmaster creator and comedian Alex Horne hosted a special competition inspired by the hit Channel 4 show at Seccombe Court care home, delivering laughter, creativity, and competition to four spirited residents.
The 46-year-old Horne led a variety of light-hearted challenges, including identifying items related to pineapples and estimating one minute with eyes closed — all reminiscent of the quirky style that has made Taskmaster a cult favourite.
“This was perhaps the most memorable task session for me,” said Horne, reflecting on the event. “The four contestants were as competitive as anyone I’ve tested before, demonstrating lateral thinking and creative interpretations of the rules.”
The residents also had to transfer sweets from one plate to another using only a straw, and the final challenge involved constructing the tallest tower using spaghetti and marshmallows — a test of both patience and engineering skill.
Among the participants was 100-year-old Ruth Johnson, who admitted to being initially puzzled. “At first, I didn’t know what was expected of us,” she said. “Alex was so nice. I thought I had met him before, but I think I just knew him from the television.”
Resident Christine Jesson emerged as the winner, earning applause from fellow residents and staff.
General Manager Wojciech Kuczkowski praised the experience: “The residents love to watch Taskmaster, and we wanted to give them the chance to take on the challenges themselves. It was great to see their competitive spirits come out. A big thank you to Alex for making it so special.”
Taskmaster originally debuted on UKTV’s Dave in 2015 and moved to Channel 4 in 2019. The show features five celebrities competing in humorous and often bizarre tasks judged by Taskmaster Greg Davies, with Horne serving as his assistant and co-creator.
