Trump Orders Investigation Into Biden’s Use of Autopen, Claims “Conspiracy to Deceive Public”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has launched an investigation into Joe Biden’s presidential tenure, alleging that aides conspired to mislead the public about Biden’s mental and physical state by using an autopen to authorize official documents.

Calling it “one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history,” Trump accused Biden’s team of hiding who was actually exercising executive power during his administration.

Autopen Use Sparks Controversy

At the heart of Trump’s accusation is the use of an autopen—a mechanical device that replicates signatures to authorize documents. The device has been used by multiple administrations, including Trump’s own. However, Trump claims that in Biden’s case, it served as a tool in a broader effort to conceal the president’s declining health and decision-making capacity.

“This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history,” Trump stated on Wednesday.

Biden, in response, rejected the allegations as “ridiculous,” framing the claims as a political distraction. “I made the decisions during my presidency… Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,” he said in a statement Wednesday night.

Ongoing Scrutiny Over Biden’s Health

Biden, now 82 and publicly battling advanced prostate cancer, has faced increased scrutiny over his mental and physical fitness, particularly in the wake of his 2024 reelection campaign.

In a recent book titled Original Sin by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, authors claim that members of Biden’s inner circle were aware of his deteriorating condition but kept it hidden from the public. The book alleges discussions among staff about the need for a wheelchair and suggests that aides controlled access to Biden during key moments of the campaign.

Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race last July following a widely criticized debate performance against Trump. In his first post-presidency interview with the BBC, Biden maintained that stepping aside sooner “would not have mattered.”

Shortly after that interview, he revealed his cancer diagnosis, which has since spread to his bones. Trump’s allies now argue that those close to Biden, including First Lady Jill Biden, likely knew of his medical condition earlier and misled the public.

Republican-Led Probe in Motion

A House Republican panel has begun seeking testimony from Biden’s former aides, including his first chief of staff, regarding the extent of Biden’s capacity while in office. Trump and GOP leaders have also discussed overturning executive orders and federal rules signed during Biden’s final months in office.

In his Wednesday statement, Trump said the American people had been “purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power” while Biden was in office, adding that the use of the autopen enabled “radical policy shifts” without proper oversight.

Political Fallout Continues

Democrats have denounced Trump’s investigation as politically motivated. Biden has defended his decisions during office and pointed to Trump’s renewed focus on conspiracy as a tactic to galvanize his base ahead of the 2026 midterms.

As the debate unfolds, Trump’s move adds another chapter to the escalating political rivalry between the two former presidents and places further attention on presidential transparency and health in the post-Biden era.
