GAZA CITY — At least 48 Palestinians, including 22 children and 15 women, were killed overnight in a series of Israeli airstrikes on the Jabalia town and refugee camp in northern Gaza, according to the Indonesian Hospital in the area.

The strikes targeted several residential homes, and videos shared online showed graphic scenes of numerous bodies laid out on the hospital floor. The Israeli military confirmed it is investigating the reports but did not immediately comment on the specific incidents.

The bombardment followed warnings issued by the Israeli military late Tuesday night, urging residents in Jabalia and surrounding neighborhoods to evacuate. The alerts came after a Palestinian armed group launched a barrage of rockets into southern Israel.

UN Urges Action to Prevent “Genocide”

At the same time, the United Nations’ top humanitarian official, Tom Fletcher, addressed the UN Security Council, calling on member states to act swiftly to “prevent genocide” in Gaza.

“Israel is deliberately and unashamedly imposing inhumane conditions on civilians,” Fletcher said during the session in New York.

He criticized Israel’s 10-week blockade on Gaza and condemned an Israeli-US plan to take over humanitarian aid distribution in the territory, arguing it further restricts access for civilians in dire need.

In response, Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon told the Council that foreign aid was being diverted by Hamas to support its military activities.

Deadly Strike on Southern Gaza Hospital

In southern Gaza, at least 28 more people were reported killed in a massive Israeli airstrike on the European Hospital compound, according to local officials.

Israeli media stated the target of the strike was Mohammed Sinwar, who is believed to have taken over leadership of Hamas in Gaza following the death of his brother, Yahya Sinwar, in an Israeli operation last October.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said the strike was “precise,” aimed at a Hamas command-and-control center located beneath the hospital complex.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reports that 52,908 people have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023. The war erupted following a Hamas-led cross-border attack on 7 October, which resulted in 1,200 deaths in Israel and the abduction of 251 hostages.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that the military offensive will escalate further if Hamas does not release the remaining 58 hostages currently held in Gaza.

Diplomatic Push for Ceasefire

In a renewed diplomatic effort, US Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Adam Boehler announced plans to travel to Qatar for continued negotiations on a potential ceasefire agreement and a hostage release deal.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains severe, with food shortages, medical collapse, and shelter destruction compounding the suffering of civilians caught in the ongoing conflict.
